DRONA Vs KIDNAP

On the first two days of October this year will have two films clashing it out for their fate on Box-office. The long awaited Drona, releasing on 2nd Oct, which is directed by Goldie Behl (Yep, Drona v/s Kidnaphe who gave us the seminally boring Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hae!) is a socio-fantasy-mythological film. Giving DRONA a very tough competition would be Kidnap, releasing on 1st Oct, directed by Sanjay Gadhvi (Tasted success earlier in both the Dhooms).

DRONA is the second Directorial venture for Goldie Behl after Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai which was a box-office dud. The budget of DRONA is much higher and the star-cast is also stronger then his last film. The film will show the solo star power of Abhishek since no big name is attached to this film apart from him and Priyanka. No Big Director like Mani-Ratnam or Big Producer like Yashraj so a lot will depend on him.

KIDNAP has been another ‘much-awaited’ movie and all the hype is surrounding Imran Khan’s negative role. Fresh out of the success of Jaane Tu... Imran Khan is riding high on the success wave and at present provides more attraction than Abhishek. Sanjay has also done nothing apart from the Dhoom series. So this can also be considered as his second attempt. Though Dhoom was produced by Yashraj and hence Aditya had an influence in those films. Still, Kidnap is produced by Ashtavinayak which is also a good production house so production quality won’t suffer.

Oscar-bound Aamir leaves King Khan title to SRK

"Shahrukh Khan will get upset if I am called the king of Bollywood,'' said Aamir Khan when told that he was the only actor from India to be nominated for the Oscars and that he should be called the original king of Bollywood.
Addressing a press meet about the plans to promote his film Taare Zameen Par for the Oscar awards in March, the actor said, "I will try my best and make sure that the film is watched by most members of the Academy. I also plan to hire a good publicist to help create awareness about the film in the American media as well as the Academy members.''

Responding to a statement that Maharashtrians have been lucky for him as both the Oscar nominations involved Marathi-speaking people such as Amol Gupta (TZP) and Ashutosh Gowariker (Lagaan), Khan said.

The actor replied, "I am born and brought up in Mumbai and therefore I am Marathi too. So, I am lucky for myself.'' Asked about his views on the ban of films in the state on the language issue, the actor said, "Issues like this are politically motivated and if any leader is trying to divide us by saying he is from a different caste and different religion, we have to be careful of them. He is not talking in the interest of the country. So, we should choose leaders who are progressive and bring peace and love in the society.''

The actor was asked what lessons he learnt from Lagaan's Oscar nomination and why the film failed to get an award. He reacted, "Lagaan did not fail. There were films that were better than Lagaan. The best of world cinema comes to the Oscars and, in my personal experience, I know a lot of the academy members had liked my film.''

Khan felt that TZP would connect with the international audience. "I remember I had attended a function in America where the screening of the film Rang De Basanti was done. All of them loved the film, which is a clear indication that our films have been engaging the international audience. Also, I am quite sure that this time, too, the film will connect with them and I hope most of the academy members are parents and will be able to connect with my film. I know my film will make people cry. I hope to make India proud this time.''

Meanwhile, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has already received submissions from 16 countries out of the 96 countries participating in the foreign film category section.

Shooting star:Now Dhoni wants a gun

India's one-day skipper says there's a threat to his life. So after getting female bodyguards to keep his fans at bay, and 'Z' category security, Mahendra Singh Dhoni wants a gun.

He's the toast of the advertising industry, the cynosure of all eyes. Dhoni is indeed Team India's blue-eyed boy.

Not satisfied with his revolver and already stout security, Dhoni has now applied for a pistol license. And the 9mm gun Dhoni wants is so powerful that its heavily restricted.

"Dhoni has applied for a 9mm pistol. The bore of this gun is very restricted," says Manoj Kumar, SDO, Ranchi.

If his aides are to be believed, a threat from Naxals is what fired his newest desire. Dhoni's application can be approved only by the Home Ministry.

Explains SS Bhatia, SSP, Ranchi, "It's a matter of a restricted bore. The state will have to take a call. I believe the DC is considering it."

But come the football game with his pals or the next bike ride, this cricketer leaves his security far behind.

Perhaps he wants the 9mm gun for a touch of safety during these times.
